National Parks Conversation Association (NPCA), the nation’s oldest and largest national parks nonprofit advocate, has an exciting opportunity for MID-ATLANTIC INDIGENOUS ENGAGEMENT FELLOW.
NPCA’s Mid-Atlantic Regional Office seeks an individual passionate about indigenous engagement and supporting tribal sovereignty through policy and advocacy in National Parks. This is a part-time, remote/hybrid opportunity (20 hours per week) with a flexible schedule.
The right candidate will be able to participate in in-person/virtual events and meetings in the Washington, DC/Virginia/Maryland area as well as working virtually to conduct research and plan events.
This position will support the Mid-Atlantic region’s initiatives to deepen indigenous engagement with tribal nations and National Parks. In addition, this person will support campaign work that includes researching current department initiatives supporting tribal sovereignty, reaching out to local tribal nations, and participating in meetings with internal and external stakeholders.
Location: DC, MD, VA, PA/Remote
Schedule: Part-time; up to 20 hours per week
Compensation: $22-$25
Tangible deliverables that will be achieved:
A comprehensive overview of Tribal priorities in our National Parks in the Mid-Atlantic Region
An educational webinar for tribal leaders and partners.
Preferred Qualifications:
· Strategic thinking skills with the ability to perform thorough research and produce concise memos and reports
· Strong writing, research, and editing skills
· Excellent communication, and interpersonal skills
· Ability to work independently and as part of a team
· Native Americans, Alaskan Natives, Native Hawaiian and individuals of native decent from the US territories in Oceania/the Pacific are strongly encouraged to apply.
